Eugene Woldemar Hilgard was born in Bavaria in 1833. He was raised in America and educated in the U.S., Switzerland, and Germany. Hilgard spent his professional life in the South and later in Calif. In his work and publications, he made contributions of great significance by furthering the application of scientific knowledge to the field of agriculture.
